So the other day I had an epiphany. People will ask how much can you lift for this or that exercise and some people will ask how long will it take to look like you? Well genetics aside, I was talking with my wife and I realized that I have been at this weight training game for 10 years now give or take busy work seasons. 10 years! This does not happen over night or even a couple months. This is dedication. If you want it you are going to put in the blood, sweat and tears to earn it! With that said, most of those 10 years I did my legs no favors by letting them off the hook more times than not. Recently I have re united with the passion for leg day and I encourage you to do the same if you are struggling with thoughts of infidelity to your legs. They’ve supported you your whole life, why not show them some love! So love them I did this morning. It is a short routine at 90 mins which, for legs, isn’t anything super impressive, but effective nonetheless. Check it out:
Standard squat (pyramid set): 135 x 10, 225 x 10, 315 x 10, 365 x 7, 405 x 6, 435 x 5, 405 x 5, 315 x 10, 225 x 10 (this took the longest of the exercises because of the shear energy expended on heavy squats)
Single leg extension on the cybex machine: 50 x 15, 60 x 15, 70 x 12, 80 x 8, finish with 50% heaviest weight done, hold for 20 sec and then rep until failure, 40 x 20sec and 15 reps
Cybex seated leg curl 2 legs: 70 x 20, 80 x 20, 90 x 15, 100 x 12, 110/90/70 super drop set 10/15/50
Smith machine calf raises off smallest box jump box: 245 x 20, 245 x 16, 195 x 15, 155 x 15, 105 x 10 <-strict on last set
Was able to grab a picture a couple hours after working out. It is amazing how much squats and leg days in general, combined with deadlifting throughout the week, enhance your physique!
The legs have a long way to come but you have to start somewhere. It’s your turn!
